Who we are
The Bhangra Showdown is a platform that gives Universities across the UK a chance to compete in a native folk dance of Punjab. Going into our 15th year we want to make sure that we can deliver once again, providing a show filled with entertainment and top-class bhangra. A show that is run by the Imperial College Punjabi Society.
World’s Biggest Bhangra Competition as well as the UK’s largest Student-Run Competition. University teams from across the UK compete in famous venues whilst promoting the very best of Punjabi culture. The show, now entering its 15th year, has amassed a worldwide following. Alongside the impressive university teams who train sometimes for around 50 hours a week, we also have Punjabi performers at the show.
About Bhangra
Originating in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan, bhangra is a folk dance form that combines upbeat music with high-intensity movement. It has increased in popularity worldwide and will only continue to grow in the coming years. The community is strong drawing large crowds to support their favorite teams to perform in one of the only bhangra competitions still standing.
Best Male & Female
Last year the best male was awarded to Gurdeep from Aston University and the best female was awarded to Manpreet from St Geroge’s. The best male and female award is something that we have been doing for years, it is given to the performers that catch the eye of the judges.
